The truth is - peer learning takes up the bigger ratio of the benefit we take away, the better the company we choose to work in, or the more selective a University we choose to study at.
With that, one can really intuit why Steve Jobs has a saying that A players hire A players; B players hire C players.
Harvard admissions officers (and their keen competitors) are so fanatic in their selection of overachieving teenagers - and to the extent of offering free education + handsome stipend to very best candidates.
Peer learning is the coup de grâce, in acquisition of skills.
And that is the main object of FOCI’s community feature - learning to control flow which involves the muscle memory/training of balancing the our parasympathetic and sympathetics on the fly, with biofeedback audio - the level 4 skill.
The design ideology is community centered on peer learning.
It is an extension of deep work. A standard 50 minutes group Deep Work session, starting at 5 min past the hour and ends at 5 minutes before the hour.

How does peer learning work here?
It would be to see the other FOCI users who join the group-session, and how they perform. For example, you could be seeing that throughout the session, pro-users sustain 50/50 minutes deep focus. And you would be able to see if he/she is using biofeedback. This would show you the possibility of a superior performance - flow - that you would now know is attainable. We hope fellow FOCI users would be able to share their experience and successes in mastering flow.
What are the rankings?
The ranking is not a game metric which you level up by participating. It is a performance metric to approximate your mastery, derived from performance track record. In other words, it is for the purpose of having you see where you are, (skills/mastery) and where you can be.
The evaluation mechanism is very lax, having bad sessions wouldn’t impact off the analysis of your mastery - it is about whether you can sustain >35min of deep focus many times over, that demonstrates that you really progressed from a professional (B) to an expert level (A).

What is MP score?
MP is mental performance score, one of the most important metrics that you should be looking out for, to build up a sustainable and high performing work. For example, if one user’s MP is around 60% with 30/50minute focus, while the other has MP 80% with 30/50 minute result, we can easily guess, the latter user accrued the focus minutes via a flow, and he/she much less fatigue and probably ready for another session. MP score is used to untie user rankings having the same focus minutes. You would soon be able to predict performance trajectory just from looking at the MP score.
In the end, the entire community is not about competition, it is us - the people, when we join the session, we seek to inspire and be inspired. The people who are there are people who put faith in productive work, gain value for focus, and derive pleasure from working together. This peer learning is really the essence.
